| Modifications / Remarks |
I was going thur logs last nite to about 3:00 AM. Start in 1950. Taken from Navy at 789 hours (pearl harbor). First civilian entry shows repair of portion of left wing from main spar back w/ new grumman ribs from factory, and replacement of left wing float (337 only one). Entry is Oct 1950. No other reference to any damage all the way forward. Mckinnon converted Rangers to G0-480-bi\'s in March of 1955. Dad acquired 1.17.1974 with 2058 hours total airframe time. He added the additional 3500 hours over the next 33 years. Majored the engines two times; first at G & N in Griffith Indiana shortly after he acquired, then again at Firewall Forward in Loveland Co. Back to Mckinnon May of 1974, where it stayed till July 74. McKinnon added wing lights, some hydraulic equipment, changed from 12 to 24 volts, and made other mods (by faa number?) increasing total gross weight for land and sea from around 5000 (empty 3900, sea 800, land 1100) to 5500. Log books show pretty meticulously maintained once out of Navy in 1950. Especially so throughout all of dad\'s ownership, (lots and lots and lots of entries, many references to \"AD\" compliances by nos, w/t lots of stapled cards, etc)). Will try to get you some photos and copy those logs. Props are Hartzell (per logs) and governors are Hamilton-Standard (specific nos for all in logs). Very detailed flight logs of all of dad\'s flights, times and passengers. In one 14 day period not long after picking it up from McKinnon in 1974, he logged about 100 hours by flying it up and through Alaska, then back across Canada to home in Goshen, IN. Averaged about 100 hours per year during his ownership. More, and more, to much for this email, but very, very detailed records. But for dad, I prob spent more time in this airplane than anyone else. |
